Drop in minimum wage age could cost employers £50m

    The drop in the age limit for the adult minimum wage will cost employers an additional £50m, it has been estimated by Thomsons Online Benefits.

    From October 1 2010, the adult rate for the national minimum wage will be applicable from 21 years of age, dropped from 22. It will affect 85,000 workers who will now benefit from the higher wage rate. The Government also recently announced that apprentices will be paid at an hourly rate of £2.50.
