From 5 December 2002, all employers who provide mobile work equipment for use at work, such as fork lift trucks, will need to ensure that they conform to the requirements of the
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. This means that it may be necessary to retrofit such equipment to meet the requirements. For example, all fork lift trucks must now be equipped with a seat/lapbelt and driver visibility aids. Failure to comply with the requirement is an offence which could result in employers being prosecuted.
