    The TUC wants the Government to make employers more responsible for work-related driving. The TUC says that, in addition to 1,000 worker deaths on the roads every year, there are also about 12,000 serious injuries to driving workers, and 70,000 lesser injuries.

    The new TUC campaign calls for:

    - the Government to act on the findings of the independent Work-Related Safety Task Group, which recommended the HSE play a greater role in inspecting the risk management policies of employers whose staff drive for their work, and providing guidance on managing occupational road risks;

    - additional funding for the HSE to enable it to fulfil any new responsibilities;

    - employers to become more responsible for the safety of their drivers and to have proper risk assessments in place - taking steps to reduce their working hours, planning routes better to avoid unnecessary journeys and running better driving training programmes.
