The British Standards Institution (BSI) is about to publish a new standard on environmental and quality audits, BS EN ISO 19011:2002 "Guidelines for quality and/or environmental management systems auditing".
Audits can be carried out for a number of reasons - for example, internal review, certification, registration or contract compliance. Organisations going through this process may find the guidelines contained in BS EN ISO 19011 useful.
The standard contains the following four 'resources':
1. A clear explanation of the principles of management systems auditing.
2. Guidance on the management of audit programmes.
3. Guidance on the conduct of internal or external audits.
4. Advice on the competence and evaluation of auditors.
BS EN ISO 19011 "Guidelines for quality and/or environmental auditing" is due to be published mid October. It is now available for pre-order at £98 (£46 to BSI Subscribing Members). Orders to BSI Customer Services, tel. (020) 8996 9001.
