Minor Amendments to Health and Safety at Work Legislation

    The Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002 were laid before Parliament yesterday, and will come into force on 17 September. The Regulations make the following minor amendments to health and safety at work laws:

    - The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 are amended so as to require that a first-aid room shall be easily accessible and be signposted.

    - The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 are amended by specifing factors to be taken account of in determining whether operations involve risk.

    - The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (DSE), the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (PPE), and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment 1998 (PUWER) are amended to give full effect to EC Directives on minimum safety and health at work requirements.

    - Minor amendments to the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).
