Ruling: Employers need good reason for basing pay on length of service

    The Court of Appeal yesterday ruled in favour of a female health and safety inspector’s challenge to seniority-based pay systems – those where the number of years in the job determines the level of pay. Christine Wilson’s equal pay case against the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) had been running for almost eight years, with numerous appeals.
