Pubs and bars are still not protecting staff and non-smokers from the dangers of passive smoking, say UK researchers. A study of the indoor air quality at 60 drinking venues in Manchester showed that many had high levels of environmental tobacco smoke compounds, while no-smoking areas had not had enough impact on improving air quality to be called "healthy". The research team from Manchester Metropolitan University say the findings will come as a blow to The Charter Group - a committee of government officials and industry representatives that has sought a solution to passive smoking hazards without recourse to a ban.
