Company prosecuted for exposing staff to asbestos

    The Health and Safety Executive has prosecuted Galamast Ltd, from Bromley in Kent for breaches in the Health and Safety at Work Act Section 2 (1) and Section 3 (1) at Bedford Magistrates Court that led to its employees, sub contractors and health and safety inspectors for the client being exposed to asbestos.

    The company was carrying out a 'stripout' of an old Littlewoods store in Bedford's Harpur Centre in March 2006 when verbal instructions about safety were misunderstood. Galamast Ltd was fined £20,000 (£10,000 for each breach) and £16,140 in costs.
