Policy of recruiting only young air traffic controllers deemed unlawful

    A Tribunal has deemed the practice by National Air Traffic Services (NATS) of setting a maximum age limit of 35 years for new air traffic controllers is unlawful under the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006. In what has been described as a landmark case, the applicant, Mr Baker, who was aged 50 when he applied for the position, is said to be “delighted” at the outcome of the ruling.
