    Employers are reminded that by 5 December 2002, all mobile work equipment provided for use before 5 December 1998 must be made to comply with Part III of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998.

    Examples of mobile work equipment include:

       * fork-lift trucks
       * dumper trucks
       * tractors

    Part III of PUWER requires employers to ensure mobile equipment at work is safe: this means any risks have to be controlled, if not eliminated altogether. This might mean fitting roll-over/ fall-over prevention structures, seat belts and rear view mirrors.

    In a similar vein, the HSE has opened a consultation document to cut the number of work-related transport accidents.
