It is not unlawful to advertise for a man to be "Father Christmas" under sex discrimination laws, according to a report on news website Ananova.

Lords Leader Lord Williams of Mostyn told Tory Lord Swinfen in a Lords written reply: "Under the Sex Discrimination Act it is not unlawful to advertise a post where a person's sex is a genuine occupational qualification for the job, within certain tightly drawn limits."

Employers looking to recruit Santas can now draw a sigh of relief.
