The days after the 1 October deadline for Display Energy Certificates have seen a rush of enquiries from building managers seeking to avoid penalties for non-compliance.

DECs are intended to highlight the overall energy efficiency of public buildings. They are an important part of the government's carbon reduction plans and failure to display one could lead to a £1,500 fine.

Since the deadline, the volume of enquiries received by services provider energyTEAM has climbed by 60%.
