How much time can a health and safety officer take off?

    In Walker v. North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Trust UK, Mr Walker was the Unison branch health and safety officer at the Trust. He could use 2½ days each week to undertake his health and safety duties.

    In 2006 he asked for additional time off, one day each week for 36 weeks, to attend a training course. His manager would not authorise this request.
