Company which illegally dumped asbestos waste receives £10,000 fine

A company has been fined £10,000 after pleading guilty to the illegal disposal of asbestos waste.

CalMax Construction Limited, from Lewis, Scotland, dumped and burned around 10 tonnes of asbestos-containing waste earlier this year, Stornoway Sheriff Court heard.

The waste – along with other rubbish – had been recovered from a demolished house on the edge of Stornoway. The waste was then tipped and burnt at a company owned development site in Newmarket.
