Use of banned substance costs company £26,000

    A sandblasting company has been fined a total of £26,000 and ordered to pay £24,000 costs after being found guilty of using a banned substance.

    Andrew Thomson, trading as Thomson Sandblast was investigated by the HSE for using sand containing free silica to dry sand blast vehicles.  Thomson pleaded guilty to six charges, including breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH).
