Proposed changes to food labelling requirements

    Date:
    24 Oct 2001

    Print friendly version

    Two main proposals have now entered the food labelling arena:

    1.  Proposal for a Directive amending Directive 2000/13/EC as regards Indication of the Ingredients present in Foodstuffs (Brussels 06.09.2001 COM(2001) 433 Final);

    2.  A discussion paper on Nutrition Claims and Functional Claims (SANCO/1341/2001).

    The aim of both these proposals is to create a better informed consumer so that consumer choice is best protected. Two associated articles on these new developments can now be accessed on Law-Now, one which comments on the proposal for an amendment to Directive 2000/13/EC on the Labelling, Presentation and Advertising of Foodstuffs, and one which assesses the discussion paper on Nutrition and Functional Claims and industries response to it.
