On 9 July 2008 the Government published a consultation paper on supporting people with pleural plaques, seeking responses by 1 October 2008.

The paper considers whether the House of Lords' decision in Rothwell v. Chemical & Insulating Co Ltd (2007) should be overturned or, if not, whether a no fault payment scheme should be introduced.
