The Heyday legal challenge – which is claiming the UK’s age discrimination legislation is discriminatory because it does not apply to those over 65 and gives employers the right to impose a mandatory retirement age – has began in the European Court of Justice today (2 July).
The judicial review against the default retirement age was brought about by the National Council on Ageing, which operates under the names Age Concern and Heyday.
