“Bad management” means higher absence in public sector

    The culture differences between public and private sectors and a resistance to modern managing techniques have been blamed for the huge contrast in absence levels of the two sectors found by the latest CBI/AXA absence survey. 

    The average absence level for public sector employees stands at nine days, 55% higher than the private sector’s 5.8 day average. These 3.2 extra days per employee is costing the public sector £1.4bn per year.
