Three managers from Harvestime Bakery have appeared in court after two of their employees died in a giant bread oven.

David Mayes and Ian Erickson died after they were asked to carry out repairs at the Harvestime Bakery in Leicester in May 1998. Management had decided to use their own staff instead of paying the £2,500 quoted by the manufacturers to do the repairs.

The manager, John Bridson, admitted two charges yesterday in court under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Brian Jones and Dennis Masters also pleaded guilty to charges. Sentences are expected at the end of the hearing.
