Tube strike set to cause chaos for capital's businesses

Roughly 2,500 London Underground workers are set to strike for 48 hours from 28 April in a row linked to the collapse of maintenance giant Metronet.

The action was called after the Rail Maritime and Transport union said it failed to receive written guarantees on outsourcing, pensions and travel facilities for its members.

The strike will cripple Tube services, meaning businesses across the capital may struggle as staff fail to make it into work. During a previous tube strike in 2006 it was estimated that businesses in the capital lost £5bn a day.

As with bad weather and as part of a business continuity plan, businesses should have procedures in place to deal with times when staff can’t get to the office, such as seeing if staff can work from home.
