The Home Secretary, Jack Straw, is to outline the government’s proposals for a new 'corporate killing' law at a 13 June conference organised by the British Safety Council. The planned legislation would make it much tougher for companies and directors to escape punishment if they cause death or injury to workers or members of the public by failing to take adequate safety precautions. The Home Secretary will explain why health and safety laws must change - and the government’s intention to clamp down with heavy fines on culpable companies.
