A government task force has decided that the HSE should be able to investigate work-related road deaths, according to a report in The Times today.

The report claims that a thousand road deaths a year involved work-related driving, and that company car drivers are twice as likely than general motorists to be involved in an accident. If the proposals are accepted, employers will have to conduct risk assessments and investigate any road accidents. In line with health and safety law, organisations could face an unlimited fine if found guilty of putting employees and others at risk.

The HSE has been considering this area of work-related health for some time. workplacelaw.net will keep you up-to-date with any developments.
