Research just published by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) suggests that training and advising workers on lifting and handling does not prevent back pain.
The research process included two trials: one showed no effect on back pain of training in transfer techniques amoing those looking after elderly people; in the other behaviour based training on lifting in a distribution centre did not result in a difference in rates of back injury during one year of follow-up.
