The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published two new leaflets of interest to workplace managers.
'Employment Medical Advisory Service and You', HSE 5(rev1) outlines the services provided by the Employment Medical Advisory Service (EMAS). The aim of the leaflet is to promote occupational health and explain the roles and responsibilities of medical and occupational health services. EMAS is a part of the HSE and provides expert advice in the field of occupational health to employers, employees, trade unions, Local Authority environmental health officers and other health care professionals.
The HSE has also published a free guide to help employers find and deal with health and safety problems in the workplace. The new leaflet - 'Need Help on Health and Safety?' (ISBN 0717617904) - is intended to help workplace managers decide how and when to seek outside help (for example, from a consultant), as well as finding the problems in the first place. The theme of the publication is compliance with legal duties under health and safety law.
Copies of both are free and can be ordered online or by calling (01787) 881165.
