Council gives employees time off for Christmas shopping

Council workers are to be given a fully paid afternoon off to do their Christmas shopping – to avoid them taking unauthorised days off nearer the time.

The perk will apply to the council's 7,500 office staff at their district offices and County Hall, but will not include key workers such as teachers.
