Updated guidelines on sound insulation in buildings have been published by the British Standards Institution. The updated British Standard gives recommendations for the control of noise in and around buildings, and makes suggestions for the appropriate criteria and limits for different situations.
The new standard `BS 8233:1999 Code of Practice - Sound Insulation in Buildings' has been written for non-specialists designers and constructors of buildings, along with those concerned with building control, planning and environmental health. It takes recent changes in legislation and official guidance into account, along with research results, and enables buildings to be designed that have internal acoustic environments appropriate to their functions.
The standard is available at a cost of £100 (£50 to BSI members).
