"Family friendly” provisions came into force on 6 April 2003 and by a series of Regulations introduced a number of new rights for parents, such as the right to request flexible working, the right to receive adoption pay and the right to Paternity leave and Paternity pay.
An employee who has had a child placed with them for adoption is entitled to Ordinary Adoption Leave and Additional Adoption Leave at the same level as for Statutory Maternity Leave.
The purpose of this Adoption Policy is to provide clear guidance to employees, explaining their entitlement to take Adoption leave, the procedure they must follow and their obligations and duties whilst on leave. The policy also acts as a checklist for managers in order to ensure that adoption leave procedures are operated in accordance with the statutory requirements, and are dealt with fairly and consistently throughout the Company.
The draft policy covers:
- Adoption rights and benefits
- Starting Adoption leave
- Your rights during Adoption leave
- Statutory Adoption Pay
- Returning to work
The draft policy also comes with a 12-page Management Guide containing helpful notes on the policy.
