Health and safety training is widely recognised as an essential component in any organisation’s health and safety strategy in addition to being a legal requirement. Constructive and well-planned training will enhance the performance of individuals, enabling them to work confidently as they will know and understand what their work involves, why it is being carried out and how it should be done safely.
As well as finding their employees are more highly motivated, employers who have introduced effective health and safety training policies will find that these result in other tangible benefits such as enhanced product quality, more efficient work processes, and reduced insurance premiums from improved risk management. Thus the cost of training, rather than being seen as a time-consuming financial burden, should always be viewed as a sound investment for all organisations.
The Health and Safety Training Policy has been published to help employers in England and Wales ensure that they comply with their requirements under law.
The draft policy covers:
- Purpose and Scope
- Legislation
- Definitions
- Responsibilities
- Induction and General Training
- Arrangements for Health and Safety Training
- Health and Safety Duty Holders
- Refresher Training
- Policy Monitoring and Review
- Policy Record Keeping
