The Guide to Business Continuity 2007 is a downloadable publication from Workplace Law Publishing. Written by leading authority on the subject, Peter Power, this essential guide provides a framework for business managers to ensure that their organisation has an action plan in place in the event of an emergency situation arising.
Business continuity took a step forward with the publication of the British Standard Institute’s BS 25999-1:2006 Code of practice for business continuity management.
The new formal standard from the BSI replaces the PAS 56 specification, and is in two parts. The first part, BS 25999-1:2006 Code of practice for business continuity management, which replaces PAS 56, was published in November 2006. The second part, BS 25999-2:2007 Specification for business continuity management, specifies the process for achieving certification that business continuity capability is appropriate to the size and complexity of an organization, and was published in November 2007.
BS 25999-1:2006 covers:
- the BCM system;
- understanding the organization;
- BCM strategies;
- developing and implementing a BCM response;
- building and embedding a BCM culture; and
- exercising, maintenance, audit and self-assessment of the BCM culture.
Part two of the BS 25999 series specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving a documented business BCM system within the context of an organization’s overall business risks. It also specifies the requirements for the implementation of business continuity controls customized to the needs of individual organizations.
This guide is designed to bring you up to date with these new changes and will help you considered all the relevant factors in continuity planning.
